While Castelo dos Mouros lacks the glitz and glamour that the other Sintra palaces and landmarks tout, it makes up for it in its history and lush surrounds. The castle defended Sintra during the Moorish era from the 8th to 12th century and follows the rugged ridgelines of Sintra’s mountains, offering sweeping views of the trees and rolling hills below.
