It's no secret that America's Southwest region has some of the most stunning sights in all of the U.S., from red rocks to white sands and everything in between. If you're headed to the desert in search of jaw-dropping landscapes, these 5 must-see national parks are sure to take your breath away.
This underrated national park was almost made for Instagram. Located in southern New Mexico, White Sands National Park features extremely rare gypsum sand dunes that are perfect for sliding down, along with striking sunsets that turn all of the sand into rainbows of colors.
It's hard to find a place where you can't find a cactus at Saguaro National Park, located in Pima County, Arizona. The picture-perfect Southwestern landscape combined with the spectacular sunrises and sunsets makes this park worth visiting alone. Plus, there are plenty of hiking trails throughout the park if that piques your interest.
Zion National Park will turn anyone into a hiker with its larger-than-life landscape and crazy hiking trails. Famous trails like Angel's Landing (not for the faint of heart) and The Narrows make it one of the most visited national parks for a reason. It almost feels like another planet as you walk among all of the towering red rock formations.
Canyonlands National Park spans across southeastern Utah featuring colorful canyons that have been carved out by the Colorado River. Lake Powell is the highlight. There are 4 different districts of the park you can check out – the Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze, and the combined rivers. Each one is so stunning, it will be hard to choose which one to adventure through.
This one is self-explanatory – people travel from all across the world just to see the Grand Canyon. Regardless of what rim you choose to explore, you'll have a magnificent view of one of the world's most amazing natural wonders. Or, if you're looking for a totally different (and daring) experience, you can choose to hike the canyon from rim to rim, camping at its base over the course of a few days.
