Packing Essentials for the Perfect Dog-Friendly Road Trip

As an avid traveler with two dogs, I’ve come up with a tried and true packing list for your future dog-friendly road trips. So what does @UrbanBirdDogs bring on a road trip?

1. Collapsible Dog Crate:

We have the 34” Matte Black Collapsible Dog Crate and 40” Matte Black Collapsible Dog Crate by Impact Dog Crates. Our collapsible crates have made traveling so much easier because they break down with ease, and are put together in seconds. With spring loaded handles on our Impact Dog Crate, we no longer get mysterious hip and leg bruises when carrying our crate through the parking lot into our hotel.

2. Vetericyn Medicated Shampoo:

This Vetericyn shampoo is for any and all messes your dog might get into along your trip. Although you might not want to bathe your dog, things happen. The last thing you want to do is get stuck washing your pup with hand soap.

3. Vetericyn Spray:

Vetericyn is for all of the bumps, bruises, cuts, and dry spots. We use Vetericyn like the Portokalos family uses Windex in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. This antimicrobial spray is the cure-all that we even use on ourselves!

4. Measured out Kibble:

Measure out your dogs daily dog food allotment + 3 extra cups for good measure. You never know when delays are going to happen, and it’s better to have more food than run out of food for your dog. We throw all of the food into our Wilderdog Doggie Bag. We like this specific food bag because it rolls up or down easily, and can clip on to your suitcase with ease.

5. Kong Insulated Water Bottle & Travel Bowl:

We don’t go anywhere without this Kong water bottle. We’ve found we don’t waste as much water when we use this water bottle, and we’re actually able to give our pups water while we drive when using this Kong water bottle.

6. Multi-Leash:

It’s important to pack a multi-functional biothane leash that can be transformed from a cross-body to a waist leash to a table attachment. We prefer the Beau and Nora biothane multi-functional leashes as they’re made of high quality biothane that is water resistant and wipes clean in seconds. To get 10% off our favorite biothane supplies, use UrbanBirdDogs10 at Beau and Nora.

7. Fi Dogs Collar Attachment:

We don’t go anywhere without a collar that has our fi dogs attachment. Even though our dog has a solid recall, we like the added security in this doggie GPS system in the event that she went missing. We can’t predict the future, so it’s best to prepare for anything and everything.

8. CBD:

For the anxious pups, we recommend dog CBD. Our favorite CBD brand is the Austin and Kat CBD.

9. Bandanas:

Just as you pack a million outfits for your travel, we recommend packing multiple bandanas for your dog-friendly road trip. You never know what photo-opp needs to be properly accessorized. Our go-to small business bandana shop is Bunch of Bandanas. You can use the code, UrbanDogs10 for 10% off.

10. Compostable Poop Bags:

Save the planet while picking up your dog’s poo. There’s no worse feeling than being out on a road trip and realizing you have no more poop bags.

11. Tailgate Dumpster:

How many times have you been out in the middle of nowhere, and your dog has gone potty just like you asked, but there’s no trash can in sight? The Kurgo Tailgate Dumpster is a magnetic trash bin that attaches to the back of your car, giving you a new spot to throw away your dog’s poop. It has been our life saver on the road.

12. Momarsh Final Stand:

This is a must-have on any road trip. To avoid having your dog what we call, “shark around”, we always bring a place for her to call her own. We specifically like the Momarsh Final Stand because it breaks down, is adjustable, and works indoors and outdoors. We literally don’t leave home without our final stand.

13. 1 Chew + 1 Tug Toy/Ball:

There’s no need to overpack on toys, but we do recommend bringing a long lasting chew like a Nylabone, and your dog’s favorite tug toy

With this packing list, you and your pup are sure to have the perfect dog-friendly road trip. Make sure you’re following @UrbanBirdDogs for more pet-friendly travel recommendations.
