This is the tale of an avid traveler with poor planning skills.
It’s me, hi, I’m the avid traveler with poor planning skills.
Although I’m often on top of my game when it comes to scheduling flights, booking hotels, and planning vacations, even the best fall down sometimes… like when your flight to New York lands at 7:00 a.m. on a Thursday, you have an important virtual interview that morning, and realized you can’t check into your hotel until 3:00 p.m. And let’s be honest – there was no chance of me taking an interview from a bustling coffee shop in Midtown.
This realization happened just a day before I was scheduled for my 3-day stay at the CIVILIAN Hotel. I decided to call the hotel directly to ask about early check-in, and they quoted me $125 for a 10:00 a.m. check-in time. Just when I thought I would have to cough up the extra cash, I remembered that I had made my hotel reservation with Well Traveled.
I reached out to Jenika on the booking team, which went a little something like, “Hey, I know I already am receiving member perks and redeeming booking credit, but is there anyyyyy chance you can help me get early check-in as an additional WT member perk? P.S. It’s for an important work meeting!! ”
Jenika replied less than 5 minutes later, saying she’d see what she could work out with the hotel. Within two hours, she confirmed my complimentary early check-in! I mean, a Well-Traveled membership is $150(for an entire year), and Jenika just saved me $125 – you do the math. Experiences like this are exactly why I’m a Well Traveled member, and if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, be sure to reach out to the booking team! Now, on to my stay at the CIVILIAN.
The CIVILIAN Hotel opened at the end of 2021 as a brand-new addition to Broadway and the theatre district. I absolutely loved the energy, atmosphere, and design of the hotel, and the location was perfect for seeing a little bit of everything. And of course, even with early check-in I was welcomed with Well-Traveled treats.
After taking my interview and working remotely from my room for the day, I headed to Rosevale Cocktail Room for Happy Hour, located on the second floor. The cocktails were splendid, the bar was lively, and there was even live jazz music to enjoy with every sip – total Broadway bar vibes.
Outside of the second-floor bar, the hotel has two more spots for sips and snacks. On the ground floor, you’ll find Rosevale Kitchen. In addition to dinner, they offer half-priced drinks and appetizers for happy hour. I opted for a glass of sauvignon blanc, along with the steak tartare and mini lobster roll appetizers.
And lastly, there’s Starchild – the hip rooftop bar with two terraces. Here you’ll find stunning skyline and sunset views, small bites, sharable cocktails, plus plenty of disco balls if you’re looking for a late-night party. And apparently, it’s a celebrity hotspot, as my bartender told me Leonardo DiCaprio paid a visit the night before I did.
Overall, I loved my stay and highly recommend booking the CIVILIAN Hotel with Well Traveled. The location was close to tourist spots like Broadway and Times Square but not too busy, and you also are a hop away from fun bars and restaurants in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.
