As any avid traveler knows, maintaining a healthy diet and fitness routine while on the road can be quite a challenge. I have a few tips and tricks up my sleeve for staying healthy while on the go.
People often ask me what are my must haves while traveling. For me these include: a BIG water bottle, healthy snacks, a comfy plane blanket, comfy shoes and... yes protein powder (current favorite is NAKED Nutrition Vegan Vanilla Protein Power)! Let me explain.
I don't love plane food... I find it has a ton of sodium and just generally makes me feel kinda gross. At home I typically eat plant based and there aren't usually a ton of great options for someone like me. I started packing my protein powder in little plastic sandwich bags (you could totally use jars or reusable bags!). The best way to do it is to actually bring an empty shaker bottle, put the protein powder in and add water / plant based milk at the airport!
I love having protein powder handy because it helps keep me going in between meals on short and long haul flights.
Besides airplane time, I actually love bringing protein powder with me most places. It may sound silly but because I do eat plant based, I'm always prepared with snacks and vegan options just in case I happen to be stuck somewhere with nothing I can stomach (it happens more often than you'd think!). I also LOVE mixing it into my morning coffee... sometimes at the airport I'll grab the starbucks oatmeal (it's vegan!) and mix in some protein powder to keep me full.
I love that I can prep these little plastic bags ahead of time and then add protein powder to water, coffee, plant based milk, really anything I have handy. Gives me a little energy boost while navigating my travels.
I mentioned my go-to brand lately is NAKED Nutrition Vanilla Protein Powder. I have to be honest, I'm pretty picky about my protein powder... I have tried A LOT of vegan protein powder. I hate when they taste chalky or don't blend well. Naked Nutrition was kind enough to send me some of their Vanilla Protein Powder and I am seriously impressed (I've also tried their seasonal Pumpkin Spice flavor which is amazing!). The flavor is yummy and it blends easily in milk / smoothies or water. I actually mix this into my coffee most morning.
