There are two types of people in this world: the ones who seek snow, and those who run from it. And while we love ourselves a sunny beach, sometimes we need a winter weekend filled with all the snow and apres-ski. Here are three destinations where we’re planning to get our fill of winter wonderland.
Oh, beautiful Banff. Between the stunning backdrop of the Canadian Rockies and the abundance of chic winter resorts, it’ll be hard to find a more beautiful place to get away this winter. And even though it’ll be cold, you’ll find an abundance of winter activities including skiing, ice skating, and even sleigh rides. We’d recommend staying near Lake Louise, but be sure to check out our Official Guide to Banff for all our hotel, restaurant, and activity recommendations.
Even though Jackson Hole is home to 3 different ski areas, there is so much more to explore beyond that. Step into the heart of the American West and you’ll find a charming downtown filled with western-chic boutiques, fine dining options, and even a few of our favorite dive bars. And you can’t miss a stay at the newly opened Cloudveil Hotel, a luxurious Autograph Collection property just steps away from the city center. Wherever you stay or play in Jackson Hole, you’ll be surrounded by 360 views of the beautiful Grand Tetons.
If you’re looking for an up-and-coming domestic travel hot spot, Big Sky might be just the spot for you. In addition to being one of the best ski resorts in the U.S., it’s filled with unique winter excursions including dog sledding, snowmobiling, and horseback riding. And if it were our weekend trip, you’d definitely find us at Lone Mountain Ranch’s Sleigh Ride Dinner – a fine dining experience where you’re taken to a remote cabin via horse-drawn carriages for a prime rib dinner served in a dim-lit room with kerosene lanterns.
