Have you ever wondered what would happen if you took two Austin dogs and their pawrents and dropped them into the heart of Dallas, Texas? Wonder no more. Our friends over at @UrbanBirdDogs decided to take a mini-vacation to Dallas and were so kind as to document their experience for all of you.
When visiting Dallas, look no further than the Kimpton Pittman Hotel. This IHG Kimpton Hotel is a dog-friendly dream in the heart of the dog-friendly Deep Ellum area located in the heart of Dallas. Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, this unique boutique hotel is the perfect balance of sophistication and fun. One of the perks of being Well Traveled members is that they help get you free room upgrades and send amazing welcome gifts. With our trip to Dallas, Well Traveled was able to help us upgrade our room to the Epic Suite. The only problem with the suite was that it was so cozy and comfortable, that we had a hard time leaving the room to explore Dallas.
Somehow we pulled ourselves out of that king bed, and made our way down to Kimpton’s daily wine reception. From 5-6pm every day, The Pittman offers free beer and wine for guests, and pets are allowed!
After checking out the pet-friendly happy hour, we decided to walk over to Mi Cocina as the concierge told us about a cute dog park for the pups along the way. Everyone on Well Traveled has been raving about Mi Cocina, so we had to try it out for ourselves. We loved how this cute texmex spot had a large covered dog-friendly patio, because of course we came on an excruciatingly hot day. I think the heat made our Mambo Taxi taste even better though. In Dallas, Mi Cocina is known for two things: their Mambo Taxi frozen drink and their Sunset Sauce. We of course tried both, and gave them our UBD stamp of approval. After filling ourselves with delicious texmex, we walked to Emporium Pies where we grabbed a slice of the Smooth Operator Pie to eat back in our suite. Each bite of that chocolate cream pie literally melted in our mouths.
The next morning I ordered an assortment of goodies from The Biscuit Bar for pick up since it’s located next door to the hotel. Even though the space had a huge dog-friendly patio, our suite was too nice not to spend a bit more time in. However, since I was ordering to go, my eyes admittedly might’ve been a bit bigger than my stomach. When I walked back into the hotel room with our food order, my boyfriend thought I had bought out the entire restaurant with how many biscuit variations I ordered. Once I tried almost the entire Biscuit Bar menu, I decided my two favorite items were the Breakfast Style Tots and the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit. After breakfast we took a self-guided walking mural tour around Deep Ellum. The area is known for their incredible street art, and it did not disappoint. There were so many different styles represented, it was truly a sight to see!
From here, it was unfortunately time to check out of our hotel and hit the road. Before this trip to Dallas, we truly didn’t have an opinion about Dallas. After our stay at the Kimpton Pittman, we will definitely visit Dallas again with the pups.
Keep up with our dog-friendly travel on @UrbanBirdDogs.
