I’m coming up on my 5th anniversary living in Colorado (and my 6th ski season!). I was born and raised in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina but moved to the Rockies for bigger (and better 🤫) challenges and mountains. I grew up skiing and went to a college with a ski slope nearby where you could even take skiing as a class! Afterward, I moved out to CO thinking I knew a thing or two about the slopes – and boy oh boy, I was pleasantly wrong.
The skiing in Colorado is just, well, different. The powder ❄️ (pow pow), the apres 🍾, and the resorts are all next level. I mean, there’s a reason why people travel from all over the world to ski here.
So after 5 years and 150+ days of “ski bumming” it up, I’m here to share my top 5 favorite ski resorts in Colorado.
This world-famous resort needs no introduction – 5,500 acres of skiing, insane views of some of the highest peaks in Colorado, apres like no other, and rolling slopes for literally miles and miles.
Steamboat Springs is a local favorite and the homiest of ski towns. Located 3 hours from Denver and tucked away from many of the other ski resorts in Colorado, Steamboat will always have a huge piece of my heart. My favorite part of the mountain are the Christmas tree bowls and I love Strawberry Hot Springs for the perfect post-ski relaxation. .
This mountain is not the best option for beginners – that’s part of why I love it. It’s famous for 2 things:
The largest ski resort in Colorado and arguably one of the most famous, Vail is well known for its legendary back bowls. It's one of my favorite towns and has a great food scene.
This resort has amazing views, the coziest ski town, and is never crowded. Although Epic pass holders have access to the mountain, it's a little trickier to get to and keeps away the lines unlike some of the other Vail resort mountains.
Although arguably any Colorado ski mountain is going to be amazing these are my personal favs. Wishing you deep snow, blue bird days and a very happy shredding season! ⛷❄️
