When we’re fortunate enough to steal away for a few nights, we always head to our favorite city, New Orleans!
We typically grab a late dinner when we get in. A spot like Justine’s is a fun way to kick off the weekend -- it has a great atmosphere and delicious food. If we’re up for drinks after dinner, the Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone is a fun spot. It gets very crowded so be patient if you’re up for trying it out.
After sleeping in (!!), Bearcat CBD is a fantastic brunch spot with killer coffee. They have a great patio for those perfect New Orleans mornings.
If you’re there on the weekend, a stroll through Jackson Square is nice before it’s too crowded or hot. There are local artists and typically some live music. There’s a cute shop nearby called Cocoally Vegan Boutique. She makes the most adorable designs -- it's the perfect spot for grabbing a souvenir.
You may be ready for a nap by this point, but if not - check out the rooftop pool & bar, Alto, at the Ace Hotel. They have delicious drinks and a great patio around the pool. Another classic spot to grab afternoon cocktails is Columns. The spot is right off the St. Charles Streetcar line. This area of the city is beautiful with large old homes with beautiful gardens. And the streetcar is so fun and cheap ($1.25 - bring exact change!). The Chloe is just a short walk from Columns and also offers up great food and cocktails, plus a pool/patio if you’re fortunate enough to grab a reservation!
For dinner, Copper Vine is a fun spot. It offers small plates and a great wine selection. This spot seems like it may be touristy because of its location, but don’t be fooled. It’s spot on with great service. If you’re wanting something a little nicer for dinner or more sophisticated, August is fine dining done right. Paladar 511 is also great Italian and has a cool atmosphere. You can walk from here to Frenchmen Street for live music after dinner (or Uber for a quicker/safer transport).
A departing brunch at Ruby Slipper on Sunday morning could be a good cure from a fun Saturday night. This place is loud and busy but consistently good food. For a more classic jazz brunch spot, check out The Court of Two Sisters. I’ve never been disappointed by either!
