Florence is renown for a few things: it's Renaissance art and architecture, rich culture, and, of course, it's outstanding food and wine. If you're heading to Florence, here are a few restaurants and meals you can't miss.
For a huge, authentic, and delicious Italian panini there is no better spot than All'Antico Vinaio! They are famous for their sandwiches and you'll often find a long line there - but I promise, it's worth it! Fun fact: They put up a sign essentially 'banning' (well, strongly discouraging) putting more than one meat on your sandwich because of my roommates! I'm not sure that it's still there but always fun. There is also a great gelato spot right next door!
This is my favorite gelato shop in the city, plus it has gorgeous views of Ponte Vecchio! Pro tip: get the mint and biscotti together for what tastes like Thin Mint ice cream.
The line might deter you, but don't let it! It's worth it! The crust, sauce, and cheese are unbeatable — don't be surprised if you end up being tempted to go back every day of your trip. My favorite part was the glass table tops!
Il Profeta is an amazing restaurant with incredible service. Ask for the John Travolta noodles — you won't be sorry!
This is a great spot for a large group. It's family-style with delicious pizza, pasta, and steaks. And, of course, wine. The exposed brick makes you feel like you're at home, and it's in such a great location to explore before and after your meal.
La Giostra is expensive, but it’s owned by Medici princes, and it’s delicious. The pear and pecorino ravioli made me cry. It was so good, but definitely get multiple dishes if you’re hungry because the portions are small. But, they make up for it with a huge wine list! You NEED to make reservations. Absolutely a once-in-a-lifetime type of meal. My roommates and I all went on our last night together — it was the perfect send-off.
If you're coming back from a late night, make a pit stop at one of the city's secret bakeries and grab a fresh-from-the-oven chocolate croissant, some cookies, or whatever they happen to be baking! For 1 euro? Yes, please.
