There are over 200 inhabited Greek islands to choose from all with their own highlights like golden beaches, beautiful views, or vibrant local life. So how do you know which one will suit your vacation the best? We chose four Greek Islands that are easy to get to from Athens and will suit every kind of traveler. Check them out below and see what island is best for you!
Ideal for:
Mykonos has become the summer vacation destination for the jet set thanks to its beautiful beaches and now famous party scene. Come here for the shopping, DJ sets, and beachside parties. Your schedule on this island will most likely be: eat, beach, party, sleep, and repeat (and it will be a great time.)
Ideal for:
With its unparalleled hillside views, blue-domed churches, and colorful buildings, Santorini is the perfect backdrop for sunset dinners, wine tastings, and spa trips. While it lacks the sandy beaches that Mykonos offers due to its volcanoes if you are into snorkeling or wine (the volcanic soil makes for great wines) this is the place to be. There is not really an offseason on this island because its vistas are so popular so if a more conventional trip is appealing, this is a great option—just be sure to book your excursions in advance.
Ideal for:
Quieter than Mykonos and Santorini, this island has become a favorite vacation spot for locals and European travelers looking to skip out on the crowds. Its unique volcano-formed lunar-esque rocks and caves make it a unique beauty and its history as a mining island means that there's year-round infrastructure and busier downtowns.
Ideal for:
Paros has the same golden sandy beaches without a lot fewer people than Mykonos. The winds on the island also make it ideal for watersports like windsurfing. The activities available and smaller crowds make it a great place for families to come and for those seeking their own relaxing beach vacation. Unlike the busier islands, Paros does shut down during the off-season (September-March) so do your research before booking tickets.
