Who knows what the future will hold, right? All of that we could agree on. What we didn’t know was where the heck we should go. We knew airplanes were out of the question so roadtrip it was.
After some conversations and poking around hotels on Well Traveled, we settled on Sedona, Arizona. Here’s a little run down of our itinerary.
We left LA at 5:30 a.m. – bless my husband, because I rolled right out of bed and into the car.
We stopped to grab Starbucks in Banning for hot cocoa and of course, a restroom run. After a few other stops, we arrived in Sedona around 2 p.m.
After driving down their stunning hillside drive, we arrived at L'Auberge de Sedona and pulled up to their valet. The lobby is so cozy and gave us all the fall vibes we were after.
Our room wasn’t quite ready yet, so we grabbed cocktails and mocktails from the lobby bar and headed down to the creek. I cannot even explain the beautiful sounds this creek produces.
We got a quick tour of the property and moved to our room an hour or so later. Our bags were waiting for us, so we immediately showered, relaxed, and got ready to go check out the complimentary stargazing – something super unique offered by L’Auberge de Sedona. At check-in, you’ll receive a calendar of the week's events, with guest experiences ranging from stargazing to yoga, all complimentary.
After stargazing we strolled across the street to The Vault, a casual gastropub-style spot for an early(ish) dinner. Being the 8-month pregnant lady I am, I was exhausted and ready to take my slice of creme brûlée cheesecake back to the room… so we did.
The next morning, we woke up and walked to Tlaquepaque, stopping at a secret garden for coffee right by the parking lot. This was the perfect little coffee walk for us – we cruised around checking out the galleries, shops, and some stunning Dia de los Muertos decor.
After our morning shopping stroll, we headed over to Sedona Golf Resort for our tee time. We spent a sunny day on the course and my husband had a hole-in-1, so all is right in the world! After our round, as customary, we went into the bar to buy the room a round.
We scooted back to the hotel, took a quick shower, and then went to Mariposa for dinner. We didn’t have reservations but planned to just sit at the bar, which we had been told was pretty easy.
Well, it wasn’t easy.
We had to grovel a bit, and they probably took pity on how giant I am, but this seems to be a place where what Chef Lisa Dahl says, goes... but we got in.
Our order:
All in all, I’d definitely recommend this spot, just be sure to make reservations so you’re in the dining room.
On Day 3, we woke up late and opted for brunch at Shorebird. It’s a strange place that I don’t quite have figured out, but the food was great. It looks very diner-esque on the outside yet super upscale on the inside, and a little pricey.
Our Order:
The views of the Red Rocks were wonderful from our window seat.
Breakfast came with a side of snow, so we weren’t planning many outdoorsy activities for the day. Instead, we drove through Boynton Canyon Loop. We also drove up to the airport lookout vortex. Since it was raining and a bit slippery I skipped this stop, but my husband ran up to the top and checked out the views for us.
We enjoyed a snowy drive back to the hotel and relaxed while it rained a bit more.
Afterward, we snagged a few minutes of sunshine and went down to Duck Beach to try and feed our neighbors. Make sure to grab duck food from the front desk!
After this, my husband went to the bar to watch the Thursday night football game while I went to check out another complimentary guest experience on the property – healing Reiki. It was a bit more informative than experiential, but I ended up having a really insightful conversation with the women who participated.
To recap, the property is stunning.
